I will begin searching through other sources of information, such as eve forums and such, but I will see what discussion I can start here.

What do we as Minmatar RP types think of when we picture our character's religion? I am fairly new to eve, so I have only fragments of ancestor worship and a melange of vodoun and norse with bits of desert arab folklore.

I bet this has been hashed over thoroughly elsewhere, so I will look around a bit.

I would also like to invite others to work on a little project of creating some Minmatar words to use in RP situations. I have NO intent of creating a full language, but developing a bit of a patois to mess with our "Dear Friends" in Local could be fun and an interesting. It would definitely create an impression of a distinct race and culture for RP with other groups.

I have unfortunately forgotten much of what I have improvised in chat. I will try to remember and also work up a few others for use. I welcome anyone to play along.

Yours,

Baahd

I think you will find Minmator religion to be fairly animalistic and weather based.

But if someone wants to correct me...

I think you mean animistic (correct me if I'm wrong)?

I think the forum admins should create a section in the public area to collate all resources regarding the richer part of their race's culture. I would be interested to see them keep record of their earlier posts on eve-o regarding the origins of Beh'Hude and stories of the past, and how it influences them today.

As for matari religion, let us not forget that the Ammatar have accepted the Amarr religion. Some believe in the esteemed work of the enlightened nefantar, moourn marek.

Refering to both the stockpile of resources, and moourn marek:

That link takes you to the repository of stories we write, in doing so we describe ammatar culture. It is better to present facts via a story, rather than simply making a list and saying matari are like this, amarr like that...etc.

Sif create a forum so you can fill it with Ammatar rubbish Mu'tadd :P

I'm attracted to the more arabic elements of the Matar. Karn is from a desert world so it seems to fit.

I make up all his ship names, plus titles in NKB, and ofc the corp name itself. I just google up middle-eastern words (old egyptian, arabic, persian, turkish even) for whatever I'd use in English then alter it subtley and throw in a glottal stop or two.

The serpents teeth story isnt original, though this version i wrote without references to any of the other versions. The well known one is Greek and about Cadmus and the formation of Thebes.

Mu'tadd I corrupted from arabic just then: noun blood traitor

Neh'bu Kau Beh'hude - the Serpents Teeth

Pa'sha - Captain (our gang leaders)
Mu'ahit - Builder (industry heads)
Apep - snake god - cap ship pilots

Mon'tu - god of war - corp nagflar class flagship
Minchar 'l Gorab - the tearing of the raven, a star in orion - muninn ship names
Chuc'mal - cat - jaguars

etc.

Theres heaps of stuff in teh prime fiction but I do;t know of a good collation. U'K forums is place to ask.

Love to get a full word/definition list including those the players have added.

There is a female spirit in Morroccan mythology named Aisha Kandisha. I think she is a kind if djinna who lives in the desert and snares lonely men. Evidently there is a disproportionate number of men married to her and currently residing in psychiatric hospitals in North Africa.

I think I've found the name of my next ship. Probably apropos, since I recently lost a rupture named "Erzuli"

My ship names are slightly modified / derived from the Gaelic tongue:
For example:

Frigate : Taihb'Bhuse - Ghost
BC : Reu'Balach - Rebellious

Is it a problem if we don't use this kind of ship names ? Mines are, for example, named Vengeful Spirit, Moon Rider, Tormented Soul, Spirit Breaker ... Or names like Mortred, Shandelzare, etc. It was at the beginning inspired from another game.

Please tell me if this kind of names is a problem !!

And sorry if my post doesn't really say something about the topic subject "Matar religion, culture, language".

Feel free you call your ships whatever you like :) I call mine all types of random things, they are usually words that pop into my head which seem fitting at the time.

Welcome to the struggle Seliah!
